How to Schedule YouTube Shorts in 2026 (Desktop, Phone, and in Bulk)
To schedule a YouTube Short, upload it in YouTube Studio or the YouTube app, and on the Visibility step choose Schedule instead of Public, then pick a date and time. That’s the whole trick. A Short is just a normal upload that happens to be vertical (or square) and three minutes or shorter, so it schedules exactly like any other video. And no, scheduling doesn’t cost you views: YouTube treats a scheduled Short the same as one you published by hand (more on why in does scheduling a YouTube video affect views).
What does affect views is the time you pick, whether YouTube actually recognises the file as a Short, and a couple of copyright traps that only show up after the Short goes live. Those are covered below, along with the fastest way to queue a month of Shorts at once.

Check these three things before you upload
Length first. Shorts can run up to 3 minutes for anything uploaded since October 15, 2024. A lot of guides still say 60 seconds, which is out of date. Go one second over three minutes and YouTube files it as a regular video, with no Shorts feed and no Shorts reach. Our breakdown of how long YouTube Shorts can be also covers which lengths actually hold viewers (spoiler: shorter usually wins).
Aspect ratio second. Export at 9:16, 1080×1920. Square works too, but vertical fills the screen and that’s what people swipe through.
Music third, and this is the one that burns people. If a Short longer than one minute gets a Content ID claim, YouTube blocks it worldwide until the claim is sorted. Schedule it for Tuesday at 6 PM with an unlicensed track and it can go “live” to nobody. Use your own audio or something you have the rights to for anything over a minute.
Schedule a Short in YouTube Studio (desktop)
- Go to studio.youtube.com, click Create → Upload videos and drop in the file.
- Write the title and description. The title is what shows in the Shorts feed, so treat it like a hook, not a filename.
- Click through Video elements and Checks. Wait for the copyright check to finish here; it’s your early warning for the Content ID problem above.
- On Visibility, choose Schedule, set the date and time, and click Schedule.
The time is shown in your channel’s time zone, which isn’t always the one you’re sitting in. If you live in Bucharest and most of your viewers are in New York, that’s a seven-hour gap you have to do yourself.
Scheduled Shorts sit under Content → Shorts with a “Scheduled” label. You can change the title, description, thumbnail frame and publish time right up until it goes public. You can’t swap the video file. Wrong cut? Delete it and upload again.
Schedule a Short from your phone
The YouTube app can do it, with one catch: go through the upload flow, not the Shorts camera. Tap +, choose to upload a video from your gallery, add your title, then tap Visibility → Schedule and set the time. The quick record-and-post camera is built for posting now, and depending on your app version the schedule option is buried or missing entirely. If you don’t see it at all, update the app.
To check or move what you’ve queued, use the separate YouTube Studio app (Content → Scheduled). Honestly, the most common mobile mistake is tapping Upload a second too early and publishing immediately. Double-check the visibility line says Scheduled before you hit the button.
Mobile is fine for one Short here and there. For anything more than three a week it gets tedious fast.
Bulk-schedule Shorts (and post them to TikTok and Reels too)
YouTube’s own tools make you do every Short one at a time, and they only post to YouTube. Most people making Shorts are also posting the same vertical video to TikTok and Instagram Reels, which means uploading it three times and rewriting the caption three times. That’s where a YouTube scheduler earns its keep.
In SchedPilot, you upload the Short once in the Post Composer, tick YouTube plus any of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and the rest, set the time, and it goes out everywhere. For a month of content, use Bulk Upload: one CSV row per Short with the file, title, description, date and time. Thirty Shorts goes from about an hour and a half of clicking in Studio to a few minutes in a spreadsheet. The full workflow, with the template, is in our bulk scheduling guide, and the cross-posting side is covered in how to post to all social media at once.
Agencies also get client approvals (the client sees a preview and approves before anything publishes) and a single calendar for every channel they run.
One honest limitation. Like every third-party tool, SchedPilot publishes through YouTube’s official API, and the API can’t attach a sound from YouTube’s Shorts music library. Audio has to be baked into the file. If a Short depends on a trending sound, schedule that one in the YouTube app and let the tool handle the rest.

Pick the time from your own data
Scheduling is only as good as the slot you choose. Shorts don’t behave like long-form uploads: long videos tend to do best in the afternoon, while Shorts traffic peaks in the evening when people are scrolling on their phones. We mapped both clocks in the best time to post on YouTube.
Generic charts are a starting point, though. Open YouTube Studio → Analytics → Audience and look at “When your viewers are on YouTube.” Schedule about an hour before the darkest block on that chart so the Short has time to process and pick up its first views as your audience arrives. If your channel is too new to have that chart, the best time to post calculator will get you close.
Then stick to it. A channel posting one Short every day at 7 PM will almost always outgrow one that drops five on a Sunday and goes quiet for two weeks. Consistency is the real reason to schedule at all.
When a scheduled Short goes wrong
It published as a regular video. The file was over three minutes or horizontal. Trim or re-export and upload again; you can’t convert it after the fact.
It went live but nobody can see it. Check Studio for a copyright claim. On Shorts over a minute, an active Content ID claim blocks the video everywhere until you remove the audio or the claim is released.
It went out at the wrong hour. Your channel’s time zone doesn’t match the one you had in your head. Fix it under Settings → General before you queue anything else.
The schedule option is greyed out. You can only schedule videos that are still private. If it’s already public or unlisted, set it back to private first.
